The technology tried out by Sophie, Countess of Wessex was Peek, a Portable Eye Examination Kit, which makes it possible to screen patients for eye conditions using a smartphone in any rural or urban setting.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex enjoyed a warm welcome from local schoolchildren, all dressed in a dark red uniform, as she arrived at the Mchesi school to learn more about the invaluable work being carried out in the country by The Commonwealth Eye Health Consortium. 


After leaving the primary school, Sophie, Countess of Wessex travelled to the Lions Sight First Eye Unit at Kamuzu Central Hospital, Lilongwe where she helped carry out tests on patients using a smartphone

Sophie, Countess of Wessex looked business-like in a black floral dress and cardigan, even wearing flesh colored tights despite the heat.  The Countess did roll up her coat and carried it in her handbag after touching down at Lilongwe airport in Malawi.
