Princess Elisabeth of Denmark died Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 18:15 at the age of 83, following a long illness.

Her Highness Princess Elisabeth passed away quietly after a lengthy illness on June 19, 2018. She was 83-years-old. The Princess was surrounded by her closest family, and lived her final years in her childhood home at Sorgenfri Palace." Princess Elisabeth was Hereditary Prince Knud’s and Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde’s first-born child and also the first grandchild of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine.  As the first cousin of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Princess Elisabeth was 12th in line to the Danish throne. She was also distantly in line for the British throne as a dependent of King George II. Princess Elisabeth had two brothers, Count Ingolf of Rosenborg, 78, and Count Christian of Rosenborg, who passed away in 2013.  Because she never married before, Princess Elisabeth was considered a pioneer by many.  She lived with her lover, filmmaker Claus Hermansen, for more than 20 years until his death in 1997.
