Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge have made a rare appearance together for a night of pomp and pageantry at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, on August 16, 2017

Prince William talked to performers who were mainly dressed in Tartan, reflecting this year's theme.

(L) Prince William looked dapper in a black dinner jacket with a silk bow tie with Submariner Dolphins and Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals, while his father Prince Charles (center) opted for a grey pinstriped suit, a pink shirt and a pair of burgundy coloured shoes, as they attends the annual military parade in Edinburgh.

Before the main event, Prince Charles and his son Prince William attended a special pre-performance event at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, where they chatted with the acts.

On his 58th birthday, Prince Charles was awarded four-star rank in each of the armed services - a general in the Army, admiral in the Navy and air chief marshall in the RAF

Prince William - known as the Earl of Strathearn in Scotland - did not seem to enjoy the dram of whisky quite as much of his father, giving off a slight wince as he drank it on stage
